SSAA Southport Branch
SSAA (Sporting Shooters Association of Australia) Southport is your family friendly target shooting club. The Shooting Range at 7/11 Hinde Street Southport is the home of the only SSAA branch with range facilities on the Gold Coast. We are basically a pistol club, however, we do have a small rifle section. The rifle section is limited by the length of the range (25 mtr) to rimfire rifles, and centrefire rifles OF PISTOL CALIBRE.
Competitions are conducted for many calibres including: Air Pistol, .22, 9mm, 38/357 and .44. This ensures that all four classes of handgun are covered enabling participating shooters to meet their Weapons Act obligations. Specific licence endorsements are required for Class C competitions.
Originally built by benchrest shooters in the early 1970s, S.S.A.A. now includes operations featuring pistol, shotgun, rimfire fly, silhouette, and single action, as well as benchrest. The complex boasts sound-baffled shooting areas along with an air-conditioned clubhouse, canteen and reloading room. The Silverdale-based company also provides ammunition, available for sale to members at the range.
Our Regular Shooting Competitions held at the club shooting range are:
- Rim Fire/ Centre Fire and Air Pistol Bullseye
- Turning Targets
- Single Action
- Holster Night – Semi
- Holster Night – Revolver
- Rapid Fire Pistol
- Rifle Competitions – Junior Rifle, Fox Head and Fly Shoot
For Competition days, dates and times please refer to the Competition Calendar located in the Calendar Tab
The Shooting Range is closed on the first Sunday each month allowing for shotgun competition at SSAA Ripley. It is strongly recommended that intending visitors phone ahead to confirm that the range is open as each year the club also makes several weekend trips to Millmerran.
Weapons licensing safety courses are conducted monthly by qualified SSAA Instructors. For more information regarding our Weapons Safety Course please refer to ‘Get Involved’ tab and click the Weapons Act Safety Course Link.
Visitors are welcome. Unlicensed visitors can have a supervised shooting range session with a qualified Range Officer, subject to Weapons Act requirements being met. Weapons Act has a few administrative requirements to be attended to first, but most visitors do shoot on their initial visit. ENCLOSED FOOTWEAR AND PHOTOGRAPHIC IDENTIFICATION IS MANDATORY for any and all Shooters. A range of shooting packages is available at a reasonable cost for visitors.
Junior shooters MUST be over 11 years of age, and have Parents/guardians consent, prior to going onto the shooting range. Parents or guardians must ensure that the Minors have photographic identification. Additionally, Parents/guardians (with photographic ID) must complete and sign the consent form available at the office. Parents/guardians will be required to remain at the shooting range whilst their junior shooter is on the range.
We look forward to meeting you!
